PROJECT OVERVIEW
ESQ provided the civil engineering detailed
design for the Avion Industrial development
adjacent to the Hervey Bay Airport. A project
managed by Fraser Coast Regional Council.
The works involved the civil design of roads and
drainage infrastructure, which included a taxiway
and apron directly linking the development to the
Hervey Bay Airport runway.
Because the development included works to the
existing airport, extensive consultation with
Council’s Airport Operations management was
necessary to ensure all safety requirements were
achieved.
ESQ were also involved during the construction
phase of the development, providing design and
construction advice to Council and the
Contractor.

CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS
Due to contractual obligations Council had with
plane manufacturing company Astro Aero, the
development had to be designed, constructed
and operational within a 6-month timeframe.
ESQ was able to complete the design
documentation, including the submission to
Council from development approval, within five
weeks of the project being awarded. This could
only have been achieved by building a project
team capable of working closely and in unison
with one another to reduce delays between the
different disciplines.
The strong working relationship between ESQ’s
project management team and the client meant
any issues encountered were resolved with
minimal disruption to the timeframe.
OUTCOME
ESQ’s involvement in the project resulted in the
development being delivered on time.
